Meet
Valerie Greene
Valerie Greene is a self-taught artist, enthusiastically painting in her spare time since she discovered her “hidden talents”. Having come from a family of five generations of artists (that we know of), she has known something was there but never made the time to venture out in to the world of art. She finally took the leap and started painting in 2004 at the age of 45.
Born in Canada in 1959 and finally making her way to Fresno in 1983 via Massachusetts and a 12 year stop in Missouri, Valerie attributes her style of painting to how her Grandmother taught her to cook. “I take four or five different recipes and then come up with my own creation adding ingredients I like and taking out those I don’t care for.” It’s the same with painting. Valerie has a camera with her at all times snapping shots of clouds, sunrays, sunsets, flowers, trees, shadows, etc as ingredients to be used in different paintings.
Experimenting with several different subjects has led to one of her favorites
being animals. Dogs and cats are the usual commissioned pets but anything can be
painted to fit your home or office or color scheme. One of her friend’s
continues to challenge her with unusual “canvases” such as painting her
three dogs on an old milk can and Morro rock on a wooden TV tray. Every painting
is a challenge and another chance to learn more.
